The Saint Mary’s delegation joined thousands outside the Capitol to watch Pope Francis address Congress.

After a brief prayer service, 12 Saint Mary’s students were off to hear Pope Francis address a joint session of Congress on Sept. 24 in Washington, D.C. Our delegation, accompanied by Dr. Tim Gossen, associate vice president for mission, sat on the West Lawn of the Capitol, watching the historic event on a big screen. Pope Francis came outside after the address and briefly greeted the crowd on the West Lawn overlooking the National Mall. Tickets for this event were generously provided to the university by U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.).
