Brother Robert Smith, university chief academic officer and vice president, Schools of Graduate and Professional Programs, visited undergraduate presenters at the MPCC Scholars Showcase.

Student research continues to be a hallmark of the university’s vision for excellence in the sciences. Our students’ research was on display at the Minnesota Private College Scholars Showcase. The Minnesota Private College Council sponsored this event at the state capitol to showcase the wide range of student learning that happens in Minnesota’s liberal arts colleges. Students from 15 schools presented their research and lessons learned to legislators and visitors in the Minnesota Senate Building.

Representing Saint Mary’s were Megan Hafner and Bryan Ortman, who completed their research with Dr. Debra Martin, and Bridget Pethke and Nick Thell, who completed their research with Dr. Jeanne Minnerath. A strong commitment to undergraduate research is one reason why more than half of Minnesota college students who attain a doctoral degree have earned their bachelor’s degree at one of the member institutions of the Minnesota Private College Council.
